Genius 23: First Defeat!?
District Preliminaries - Some of the players participating in the tournament are checking out the tournament standings and figure that Seigaku and Kakinoki are going to take the 1st and 2nd placings as usual. However, some think it's not going to end the way they think. Ann walks by and notices that Momo and Ryoma are playing against Izumi and Fukawa again. Although Ryoma and Momo are powerful players, their doubles formation is just terrible.
Momo runs to get an overhead smash but Ryoma takes it and Izumi uses a passing shot to win the point. Gyokurin's doubles pair seems to have the upperhand in the game now and their school is cheering like crazy for them. Inui shows up and explains how doubles is much different from playing singles. He draws the basic formation for doubles on the ground and points to the empty spot in the corner. If the ball is aim there one person should go for it while the other player guards the other side and prepare to return a shot. But since Ryoma and Momo's have a larger range than other players, both of them go for the ball and run into each other. Gyokurin has just won the first game and the players begin to switch sides (Gyokurin-1, Seigaku-0).
Ryuzaki mentions how poorly both Ryoma and Momo are playing. Momo tells her that he knows what to do in his mind but his body reacts differently than what he wants. Ryoma says the internal conflicts are worst than the external pressure. Momo and Ryoma start to argue again while Izumi and Fukawa walk by laughing. The try to provoke Ryoma and Momo and it actually worked. Ryuzaki asks if they made a mistake putting them in doubles and Tezuka agrees. The teams give their support again and Momo begins to serve.
Momo serves with all his might and performs his Dunk Smash but the ball hits Ryoma in the back of the head. Gyokurin's team calls Momo and Ryoma a self-destructive team and Ryoma thinks about how noisy they are. Ryoma sees an empty spot in the corner and aims towards it but Momo moves over to that area and gets hit in the head as well. The second game ends with Gyokurin leading (Gyokurin-2, Seigaku-0).
Ryoma and Momo then takes their rackets and draws a line through the center of the court. They decide that each player just returns balls that lands on their side and not worry about balls going to the other.
End.
