Genius 20: Street Tennis

Seigaku Jr. High - It is the day before the district preliminaries and everyone is getting ready. The tournament chart has already been posted and the 1st years are taking a look at it. Mizuno reads that only the 1st and 2nd ranked from the tournament will advance on to the perfectural tournament. Kachiro notices that is says there will be 3 singles players and 2 doubles players and wonders what position Ryoma will be playing. Horio asks where Ryoma was and Kachiro mentions that he already left with Momo.

Ryoma and Momo were trying to predict the line-up for the tournament - Singles #1: Tezuka, Singles #2: Fuji, Doubles #1: Oishi and Kikumaru. Both of them figure that they are going to be the last singles player and they both know that they don't play well in doubles. Ryoma challenges Momo to a match and they head off to find a court that is still open at night. They both start to hear a noise that sounds like people playing tennis and finds out that people are playing street tennis. A girl waves at Ryoma but he ignores her. They ask someone if there was a fee to play and they mention that it's free but since there is only one court they had to play doubles. 1 game determines the match and you switch out if your team loses the game.

Ryoma and Momo play against 2 cocky doubles player, thinking they will score and easy win because they're playing against a middle school student and a kid. Momo tells Ryoma to use his special serve and not to go easy on them. Ryoma uses the twist serve and beats them by only using serves. Nobody else wants to play against Momo and Ryoma so the pair that told them the rules decides to play. They figure that Momo and Ryoma are newbies when it comes to doubles and plans just to aim towards the middle. They do hit it towards the middle and it works. Izumi hits the ball towards Ryoma's side and since Momo was already running Ryoma missed the ball. Ryoma mentions to Momo that he has never played doubles ever before. The ball lands in the middle again and the game is already over before Ryoma and Momo got to do anything really.

Momo and Ryoma start to argue against each other about who should've hit what. The girl watching figures that they aren't meant to play doubles. The other people watching run over to Izumi and Fukawa and mention that they shouldn't have expected anything less from Gyokurin's #1 pair, which is the school Seigaku is going to play first in the tournament.

Later Ryoma buys a book called "How to Play Tennis Doubles" for 860 yens.

End.
